The Death of Tambert
Or
Tammy's Rebellion

By Angel O'Hare

I wish to thank Jerrie for her work editing this story for you and I. Even though she is working on her own novel and working a full time job that is demanding overtime, she has found a way to edit this chapter. THANK YOU JERRIE! Huggles.

So the battle of identity began way before Tammy opened her eyes to the real world. This all happening as Margie and Gail entered the recovery room.

Tambert awoke, sitting up with a jolt, as quick as lightning flashes through the darkened night sky.

"NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

He screamed a primal scream from deep within, a scream so loud and powerful everyone was shocked to stillness and fear. The gut wrenching scream of loss and death.

Tambert knew he was dead. TC was gone there was nothing he could do about it now. The tears flowed freely and heavily as Tammy's body trembled with the deep sobs of pain and loss. Her mother grabbed her and held her close in a vise grip, holding her tighter and tighter as Tammy tried to push her away.

'Honey, it's going to be alright. We are all here for you darling.'

Greta was crying as hard as Tammy was. Grandpa fell back into a chair as silent tears flowed hard and fast down his cheeks like a swiftly flowing stream during a hard rain. A feeling of helplessness pervaded his entire being. He had failed to save his grandson.

Grandma ran to her husband's side hugging him and imploring him not give up. She could read his face and features, knowing he felt he had failed the one he loved so much. He now looked but a shell of himself, pale as a fresh winter snow and his skin felt just as cold. Grandma began to pray once more.

Margie and Gail ran to Tammy both firing orders at the nurses who had come running hearing that awful scream of pain and utter loss.

Gail pried Greta's grip off Tammy as Margie took hold of Tammy's cheeks looking into her eyes. Tammy pulled back her right arm forming a tight fist and let an awesome punch fly hitting Margie square on the nose.

Margie staggered back hearing and feeling the crack as blood spurted from her now broken nose. Two nurses nearby ran to Tammy and had to lay on her to hold her down as another injected the tranquilizer into the IV port. In seconds, Tammy lay still once more.

Tammy was quickly moved to the psychiatric wing and put in an isolation room by Gail. Her hands and feet restrained to the bed for protection of herself and others. This little one had a heck of a punch!

Karen came in and re-examined Tammy. Luckily, everything looked ok, save for some excess bleeding, caused by the rapid increase in Tammy's blood pressure during her outburst. Karen examined the sutures of the newly formed labia and vaginal opening. The sutures bled some, but were still intact. The gauze packing in Tammy's new vagina was still in place and intact. A nurse called attention to swelling of Tammy's right hand. An X-ray was ordered, stat, and when read it showed Tammy had dislocated two of her knuckles and fractured several of her metacarpals. They splinted her hand and wrapped it to her elbow. Karen ordered a waist restraint for Tammy. She did not want this child thrashing about anymore.

Margie, now in the emergency room treated for her broken nose. It had to be set and bandaged heavily, bruising already appearing around both of her eyes. Her face was puffy with swelling; she looked horrible and knew she would have to take time off from her practice. She thought of joining Dee-Dee on the island.

Karen and Gail had the Cert family gathered in a conference room. They entered together with reassuring smiles and gestures. This was going to be one hell of a conference!

Grandpa was so despondent he had to be taken there by wheelchair. All three of the Certs and their friend Rita were crying; Grandma on her knees praying a Rosary while holding her husband's hand. Greta and Rita, holding hands were talking softly to each other between sobs.

Karen began the conference with a reassuring smile.

"Ok everyone; the time for tears and feeling sorry for yourselves is over. As you all know the operation was a complete success. Tammy is all girl now and a very beautiful one at that. Physically she is fine, but after her punching Margie, she has a problem with her right hand. That is being taken care of and will pose no danger to her and will heal just fine. Margie on the other hand has a broken nose and severe bruising resulting from that punch. She will not be joining us as she had planned to do. I hope you all understand, she just wants to get home and take a few days off. I know you are all concerned about Tammy's mental state and to that end, I give you Gail."

Gail came forward all smiles and gave each of them a hug and a few reassuring words.

"Mr. Cert, you cannot help Tammy or anyone else sitting there feeling you have failed your Grandson: YOU HAVE NOT! What choices were there for you? To let your Grandson die in utter agony and pain, or to give him a new and better life as your Granddaughter? Tambert had no chance of growing into adulthood as a man and you know it. The timing is what is to blame if there is anything to blame at all for this becoming a bigger issue than it should have been. Tammy's body demanded this issue be resolved now and that is the reality of this situation.

"Greta, you and your mother will have to step up and make this transition as enjoyable as you both can for Tammy. There are a number of things we all can do. I will help you all understand the process, and gradually we will succeed.

"Now, the outburst Tammy had in the recovery room was expected and I told you this could happen. The severity of it caught us all off guard, but it was expected. Tambert lashed out at his loss and luckily, he chose Margie, his doctor, as his target. It could have been far worse if he had chosen one of you. He blames Margie and not you for his loss. This is very important for you to remember now, and that is Tambert is gone and Tammy is here. The most important thing is for you Mr. Cert, is to not see Tambert and to treat Tammy as the granddaughter that she is. The more any of you mention or refer to Tambert, the more complicated YOU will be making things.

"Tammy has been moved to the psychiatric wing for her own protection and that of the medical staff. She has been restrained, and I am asking you to not visit her for a few hours until I see her first. I will explain everything to her and I am sure the restraints can then be removed. I believe she will feel much better seeing you while not being held in restraints. Now let us go over a few things before I leave to go see her..."

+ + + +

Tammy began to stir as the nurse assigned to sit with her was taking her blood pressure. The nurse stepped back immediately seeing Tammy's eyes open and pushed the call bell. She returned to Tammy's side and began to softly, and gently talk to her.

"Hello Tammy, I am your nurse for this shift and my name is Susan. Are you thirsty, Honey?"

"Yes, Susan very thirsty, can I have some pineapple juice please?"

"Not yet Sweetie, but how about some ice water instead Tammy?"

"Ok Susan, ice water would be great."

Another nurse arrived summoned by the call bell and Susan spoke to her.

"Angela, could you inform Dr. West that Tammy is awake? Also, could you also fetch Tammy some fresh ice water please?"

"Sure Susan. Just let me get Tammy's pitcher, I will be back shortly."

"Thanks Angela."

Angela gave Tammy a big smile and a wink as she retrieved her pitcher and left.

Susan spoke to Tammy once more.

"Would it be ok if I finish taking your blood pressure Sweetheart?"

"Sure Susan, I won't bite you."

They both started to giggle and then Tammy noticed she was tied down real securely.

"I'm sorry I hit Dr. Purnell, is she ok?"

Susan began to laugh remembering what she heard this tiny child did to the doctor. Truth be known, not many of the staff liked Dr. Purnell because of her superior attitude and the way she treated them.

Tammy looked at Susan with a surprised expression wondering why she was laughing.

"Tammy, you have a lot of the nurse's support and they all want to meet you." Susan chuckled some more.

"You did what a lot of us have wanted to do for some time. Truth is, Tammy, you broke her nose and she has taken a little vacation."

Tammy had a big smile on her face as she said "YES!" She would have raised her hand in triumph if it wasn't tied down. She tried and found that it hurt real bad to move it.

"You broke your hand Sweetie, but it will be ok in about six weeks."

"OH GEEZ! I did it again!"

Tammy's blood pressure was normal and now Susan had to take her temperature.

"Tammy, this is a new thermometer and all we have to do is put this little part in your ear for a few second ok?"

"Ok Susan, that's much better than what nurse Dee-Dee does. She always takes my temperature in my bottom."

"Your temperature is a little high Tammy, but that is to be expected after all you have been through."

Tammy felt like she had to pee and asked Susan for a urinal.

"Honey, you have a catheter and your urine goes right into a container hooked to the side of your bed. Now if you have to have a bowel movement you let me know ok and I will help you."

Tammy remembered more then and started to cry, as a few tears flowed and her expression changed from curious to sadness.

"Tammy, Dr. West will be here soon and she will explain everything to you ok?"

Tammy just nodded and Susan really felt for this tiny child.

"How about I tidy you up a bit before your visitors arrive, Sweetie?"

Susan pushed a button and the head of the bed rose up. She then lifted the lid of the bedside table and removed a brush and comb. She had Tammy lean .
forward a little and fixed her hair. After that, she got a washbasin, cleaned Tammy's face clear of the tears, and dried crustiness around her eyes. Tammy thanked her and gave Susan a smile, a smile that spoke volumes to Susan. This child would be fine she just knew it.

Tammy was the talk of the hospital. Floor by floor, unit by unit the nurses gathered to talk about this child and what she had done to Dr. Purnell. The cafeteria buzzed with excitement as the news quickly traveled as it does in all hospitals. They all badgered the E.R. staff for news of why this child was admitted and anything else they could learn. Soon the story was complete and many wanted to see this child for themselves. They would have to wait though, the psychiatric wing was a closed unit. Only the staff assigned there and authorized visitors could gain entry.

The nurses and other staff members of the psychiatric wing all popped in one by one and two by two to meet this child. Soon Tammy was giggling and laughing as they each kidded her and promised her something special as a surprise would be coming shortly. Just after Dr. West gave the ok, they said. The staff pooled the money they had on hand and sent a fashion savvy staff member to the boutique nearby.

Dr. West breezed into Tammy's room with a smile and a hearty greeting.

"Hi Tammy, I am Dr. West and you can call me Gail. Are you ready to get out of those restraints and talk to me for a bit?"

"Yes! Please Gail! I hate these things and I will be good, I promise."

Gail chuckled as she used her key to open the slip locks and removed each of the restraints as Susan was untying the waist restraint.

Soon Tammy was free and felt much better sitting up and talking freely and openly with Gail. Susan sat nearby smiling and getting to love this child more and more as she listened in on their conversation.

The Cert's were sent for, and Grandpa no longer needing the wheelchair walked together only to gather in another room on the psychiatric floor. The nurses had asked them to wait just for a few more minutes because Tammy wanted to clean up a little before they visited her.

You could hear giggling and laughter coming from Tammy's room as a few of the nurses chosen by unit vote prepared her using the special surprise items the staff had gotten her.

"Oh Tammy, this is the prettiest baby doll nightdress they had." It was very pretty, all different shades of pink with pale lace made of a very soft material. It had a matching robe, which they helped her on with. There were pretty pink crystal stud earrings and a matching necklace she now wore. A pinky ring on her left, the one for her right pinky had to be left off due to her broken hand. Her hair was redone parted in the middle with a ponytail on each side tied with pink ribbons. They told her it was better that way and more comfortable as she lay back against the pillow. Tammy agreed. A single ponytail would push into the back of her head as she lay back. A little lipstick and the child looked beautiful. The smile Tammy showed completed the happy and pretty picture. She was ready to meet her family now.

And so Tammy has a tantrum and punches Margie into yesterday. What a way to start!

The prior mental state of TC prior to the operation I still have difficulty with. His major influence in his life has been his mother and grandparents, with his two female ancestors treating him as female. TC played a lot with girls and didn’t seem too unhappy with the situation apart from when he realised it. TC knew he was classified as male and that conflicted with his upbringing and situation in life.

However was TC female or male minded? He reacted badly to Margie in previous chapters but was that because he hates doctors due to it being a reminder that he has a conflict? Does TC not want to be treated as female as because he hates doctors or because he is male?

The initial reaction of TC in this chapter was to lash out. Was this because he is in hospital and he sees her as a catalyst? The reaction later TC was put into the fancy baby doll nightdress was supprising if taken in conjunction with TC’s reactions to female clothing in chapter 2. How much of this acceptance was from the chat with Gail? Maybe TC was told to be strong for the family and is putting a brave face on the situation. I think we will only find out in the next episode.

How much of this being forced is due to Greta and her mother or is the major influence coming from the genetic research centre? The major question that I am now where near seeing the answer to is why did Greta go for a genetic baby and not finding a man? Many unanswered questions which I’m sure will be revealed when Angel wants to.

Many thanks Angel for an excellent continuation of the story that was full of detail and could just picture the anguish. Very well written.

All very good questions and I know you have been following the story from chapter one.

All of your questions will be answered by the end of this series. To answer any of them now would mess up the way I am writing this one. Giggle, giggle.

If you want to e-mail me, I jut might give you a lead in on the twisting and turning Tambert's mind and heart works. Giggle, giggle.

Hi Karen,

Afew answers to your many question about this one. I qoute you and then answer.

1)The prior mental state of TC prior to the operation I still have difficulty with. His major influence in his life has been his mother and grandparents, with his two female ancestors treating him as female.

1a) Not exactly, the two women had their share of treating him as a female. Remember though, TC was not aware of most of their doings. Like the female clothing and also he was not aware of how his mood and mannerisms changed while he was in the company of girls. This he learned from listening in on his mother's and Grandmother's conversation in the kitchen while thinking he was sleeping.

2) TC played a lot with girls and didn’t seem too unhappy with the situation apart from when he realised it.

2a) That is the point exactly, he rarely recognized it at all. All he knew was that he was having fun and was treated nicely for once. Normaly he was always alone when it came to children and himself. He usualy was treated badly and almost always picked on by other children.

3)TC knew he was classified as male and that conflicted with his upbringing and situation in life.

3a) TC thought of himself as a male. He had the equipment males have and that is all he needed to convince him of his sex status. Don't forget his Grandfather's influence! He loves his Grandfather deeply and they always do men stuff together.

4) However was TC female or male minded?

4a) Depends on the influence and on who he is with. A combination of both I would think. Remember, because of his health and physical concerns he has been limited in what he can participate in with activities. He loves swimming and diving and excells in both. He is to vulnerable to injury to play any contact sports, but that never stopped him from wishing that he could play. TC never said he disliked contact sports, what he did say was he disliked the way he was treated by the other boys when playing with them.

5) He reacted badly to Margie in previous chapters but was that because he hates doctors due to it being a reminder that he has a conflict? Does TC not want to be treated as female as because he hates doctors or because he is male?

5a) I can answer these questions together. TC has always been ill and was in his mind always humiliated and treated as a baby by the nurses and doctors he has dealt with so far. They have always told him to do this or that and never once asked him anything or of his opinion. The way nusre Dee Dee always took a rectal temp when she did not have to and also the way almost always undressed him and did things while he was naked and not offering him a gown to cover up. Yes, he disliked them and with good reason. TC does not want to be treated as a baby and also, not to be treated as a little girl, he knows he is a boy.

6) The initial reaction of TC in this chapter was to lash out. Was this because he is in hospital and he sees her as a catalyst?

6a) TC remembered the doctor saying he should have his 'marbles' removed as soon as possible and she even tried to talk his mother into doing it that very day. His Grandfather was the one who rescued him from that fate. TC knows he is sickly and prone to bone fractures. He also knows how he is treated when he needs fixing or treatment. He dislikes being treated that way and links the doctors and nurses with his humiliation and their seemingly uncaring attitude as to what he desires. He wakes up and realizes that his marbles and even more than that has been done to him. He is really pissed off, more so than he has ever been in his life. He sees the reason for what was done to him right there in easy reach. Damn right he broke her nose! He needed to lash out at someone, that someone was the person he 'knew' wanted to remove his marbles and figured she wanted to do even more.

7) The reaction later TC was put into the fancy baby doll nightdress was supprising if taken in conjunction with TC’s reactions to female clothing in chapter 2.

7a) You are correct, these questions will be answered in the next few chapters.

Thank You Barbara Lynn Terry,

I can accept you not liking Tammy punching the doctor in the nose. Your stories are the nicest, cleanest and the ok for all "G" rated stories of any other author. You have a rare talent and have lived a rare and wonderful life compared to mine.

Things will change over to more fun times soon. Like in the Tammy True episodes. Giggle, giggle.
